Autumn Thrifting – What New Style I’ve Added To My Wardrobe
September 24, 2018
Believe it or not, the weather in Los Angeles has finally started cooling down. I revelled in the lingering heat these past few weeks, but shorter days have been threatening autumn’s arrival. The A/C is officially off and windows open – which, unfortunately, now means that I hear all the wonderful LA sirens on Santa Monica Blvd. Oh well – compromises, right?
My summer dresses have not had as much wear as I would’ve liked, but I’m already excited at the prospect of pulling them out my wardrobe next year (orrrrr on holiday this week? Mexico here I come!). With autumn comes layers. That typically means comfy jumpers, boots, & other light layers. However, there is one ‘layer’ I’ve not really tried in my wardrobe yet – neckerchiefs! As I mentioned in this post, I love scouring Pinterest for outfit ideas and have done so for many years. A few of my favourite accounts have been incorporating neckerchiefs as a layer for autumn and I’m rather intrigued. I know this is not a new phenomenon, but I’m always keen to explore new styles and step outside of my style comfort zone.
On a mission, I walked across the street to my local thrift store and beelined to the scarf section. What a better way to try a new style (cheapily) and experiment (sustainably) without causing much damage to the bank account? To my surprise, I found the exact type of neckerchief I’d been looking for… down to the colour. It was perfect! The best part? It was from Brooks Brother’s and only $5. Holla! I also happened to get a beautiful houndstooth blazer this same trip for only $10! Sometimes I cannot believe just how amazing thrift finds can be!
I instantly knew how I wanted to style this effortless ‘autumn’ look. A basic Everlane tee, my thrifted jeans from Wasteland, my fave fall boots, and that’s it!

How a simple neckerchief can transform a look! I’ll definitely be adding a few more of these to my collection for some other autumnal outfits I’m cooking up! Thrift shops come in many forms and sizes here in LA (unlike what I was used to in Florida) so it can be a tad bit overwhelming at times. I definitely have to be in the right mindset to sift through a lot of unwanted pieces to find my hidden gems, but it’s absolutely worth the added inconvenience! Oh, and it’s the most sustainable way to shop – so there’s that. 😉
