I Am Saffy
August 1, 2017
This first post is to introduce myself to you properly. My name is Samantha Luis (appropriately nicknamed Saffy by my dad when I was a teenager). I was born in South Africa, moved to England for some time and eventually made my way to the United States where I have been bouncing around ever since!
Currently, I reside in Los Angeles, California with my fiancé and am only now (at almost 30!) starting to feel like I understand my purpose in life. My passions have really come to a head in the past couple of years and those are what I’m going to fill these pages with! The things I’ll be discussing here are a wide range of topics! Some include:
I absolutely love cooking/baking and especially healthy food! The recipes I’ll be posting will be of ones passed down through my family and those I’ve simply experimented with over the years to be exactly what I crave!
I’ve recently been introduced to a whole new side of the fashion industry that I feel isn’t being talked about as much as I would like it to. This has led to my strong desire to spread the word about transparent and sustainable fashion. I’m probably the most fired up about and keen to share my ideas on this topic!
Ever since I was a wee one, I’ve had the travel bug. Having lived in well over 30 homes during my lifetime, moving (& simply traveling) is an exciting and natural part of my life. I can only hope that I’ll be able to introduce even more of it into my life over the next few years.
Last year I got engaged! This process has been a wild and adventurous journey that I’m hoping to share with you!
Growing up with a grandpa who played the organ & piano, I quickly grew to love music. I learned the piano at a young age and then progressed into classical guitar. However, my love of music didn’t stop there. Music is a form of medicine for me. A motivator. An emotional release. I’ll be sharing my favourite songs and playlists with you!
These passions are truly what spurred my desire to launch Simply Saffy. I am not new to blogging, however. I started one in 2015 but let anxiety and insecurity get the best of me. I’m announcing this publicly to a.) hold myself accountable for maintaining this one and b.) to show you that I’m not even close to perfect (& don’t pretend to be!) but am learning to deal with these internal battles. Hopefully my openness brings you some comfort when dealing with your own demons.
This blog is a creative outlet for me and I hope it becomes a source of inspiration for you. Thank you for following me on this journey. I’m looking forward to connecting with each and every one of you!
