I’m Engaged!

I’m Engaged!

August 1, 2017

Where do I begin?! It’s been a rollercoaster of a year. Yep, you heard me, I’ve been engaged for over a year now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. See, I’m ‘that’ girl who has been planning my wedding since I was 7 and always said I wanted a long engagement to process everything fully and plan on my own time. Of course, the wedding planning process isn’t completely how I imagined it to be, but I could not be more excited about it either.

Let me take a step back and give you a little bit of a background for context.

I have kissed a lot of frogs. By the time I moved to LA (circa January 2014) with my brother, Jonathan, I had pretty much had it up to here with bad dates and let downs. I decided to simply enjoy this new city with Jonathan (who is my best friend and has been since he was born) and forget about the dating scene for a bit. Jonathan moved to LA for a very exciting job and graciously let me tag along for the ride. He turned up for his first day on the job and bumped into a friend from university! Neither of them knew the other was going to be crossing the country and working at said exciting job! So, they decided a catch-up was in order that very weekend. Since I was crashing with my brother, I naturally tagged along!

Long story short, that friend is now my fiancĂ©. Turns out, my mum had met him about 5 years ago and echoed the words, “Samantha needs to date him.” You can’t disobey mum, right?!

Fast forward to July 23rd 2016 when Eddie (yes, he has a name) got down on one knee and asked me to be his forever. We’d been living together for about 2 years already so not much changed post-proposal as it related to our living space. The wedding planning process, however, has been… interesting.

I'm engaged

I could sit here and tell you that planning our wedding has been all fun and games, but that would be a lie. I have absolutely considered cancelling the whole thing and just eloping. That sounds so dramatic writing it out, but it’s true. We’ve been absolutely spoiled by our family and friends, so I’m not being ungrateful. They’ve particularly showered us with massive amounts of love for our Couple’s Shower and Bachelorette Party. (Eddie’s Bachelor Party is scheduled in Germany mere days before our wedding… God help me.). It’s just been an overwhelming process with wedding politics out the wazoo!

Enough of the pity party. One of the first things I did when we got engaged was go to Barnes and Noble (bookstores do still exist! Imagine that?!) and purchase “The Knot’s Ultimate Wedding Planner & Organizer.” As an engagement present, one of my bridesmaids bought us the book pictured above (and below) to help us plan our wedding. It is far prettier than The Knot’s but I truly did love the way The Knot laid out its content. So, I decided to put all of that content in this chic white book.

{Side notes: this book was from Australia, so all the holes were in the wrong places for moving content over easily. I actually spent the time re-hole punching all the pages just so that I could use this pretty book. It’s the little things, right?}

This book has truly been a life saver. I mean it. I thought I knew everything there was to know about the wedding planning process until I flipped through these pages.

This Wedding series will give you a look inside all aspects of our wedding. I’ll be talking about our DIY invitations, our ridiculously fun Couple’s Shower, the drool-worthy location we scored at a fraction of the cost of most places in California (hint: it’s a destination wedding), and some tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way for other brides-to-be. If there’s anything in particular you want to know, ask me!
