Blushing in My Damn Good Denim

Blushing in My Damn Good Denim

February 19, 2018

It’s mid-February and I’ve been itching to share two of my favourite Christmas presents with you! 1.) My Everlane “Damn Good Denim” and 2.) My new blush Reformation tie-top. As you can tell, I was absolutely spoiled for Christmas and the weather has finally warmed enough for me to wear my new pieces.

I’ve been oogling Everlane’s new denim collection for a while now. After learning from The True Cost that denim is one of the biggest culprits of waste and pollution from the fashion industry, I made a vow to be more conscious of my jean purchases. Everlane claims to create their denim in the world’s cleanest denim factory – which recycles 98% of its water and repurposes byproducts in order to create a vintage-inspired and sustainable wash for their denim.

For some seriously shocking and interesting statistics on the denim industry, check out these out:

Now, onto how I like the style, fit and look of these jeans.

Let me first state that I’ve never felt comfortable exposing my midriff ever, let alone in a pair of jeans. These jeans seriously make my stomach look flat – which it’s definitely not! I’m typically a fan of high-waisted jeans vs. low-rise (or on the hip) so, I’m happy that Everlane nailed it with the height of the waist.

I’d say that the jeans flatter the bum really well. They’re not too tight, which gives a little flexibility for sitting and standing, but tight enough to accentuate the positive (<– one of my favourite jazz songs).

Jumping quickly to a wee con: I’m not a huge fan of how the jeans fit around the crotch area. They fit a little loose which makes them appear a tad baggy where they shouldn’t. It’s not hugely noticeable (I don’t think…) but something I’d want tightened up a wee bit. Now, in saying that, they definitely feel more comfortable than the crotch in my current vintage Levis which are just a wee bit too tight. So, not a terrible problem to have.

I chose to get this colour denim because I needed to find a good every-day replacement, and this colour perfectly does that job. Everlane has made a wide range of colours in their denim though, so surely I’ll get a different colour soon (I especially need a good white and black pair!).

The feel of the denim is relatively stiff, but again, not an issue around the crotch, bum or waist. Where this stiffness is a bit tricker is around the ankles. We’ve all had that pair of jeans that requires a second person to help remove them. This is definitely one of them. Thank you, Eddie!

Overall, I’d say the pair is incredibly comfortable and I’m keen to go back for my second pair in a different colour and, potentially, style.

Now, onto the top! Reformation had a sale over the holidays that I absolutely took advantage of. So, you can say that this top was a Christmas present from me to me. 🙂

I rarely go bra-less, and it’s not for lack of wanting or trying. Sometimes I feel comfortable doing it, other times I don’t. In this top, I always feel comfortable going bra-less as I feel it just works well with the style of the top. Additionally, even though it’s just a tie top, my boobs still feel somewhat supported enough to go free all day.

The top is incredibly soft, comfortable, and just an absolutely beautiful colour. I also got a slip dress in the exact same fabric that I’m itching to break out soon! (Los Angeles, please stay warm and stop getting randomly cold on us! Thank you.)

I’ve recently starting mixing and matching feminine and masculine styles together to get a look I ultimately feel comfortable with and this is certainly one of them. It makes me feel like I’m taking a few more risks with my fashion and I’ve always liked to do that where possible.

Overall, I’m pleased with my Everlane denim purchase and I’d recommend these to anyone currently searching for a pair for their wardrobe. The Reformation top was a purchase done during their holiday sales. So, it was more affordable than usual and the perfect impulse purchase!

I’ve got a second-hand Levis denim jacket so I don’t necessarily need another one, but for anyone interested, Everlane will be launching their denim jacket collection in April that looks like it will be a hit and fly off the shelves (like all their other products). I hope you’ve enjoyed this review!

Love,

Saffy
