Beach Day Picnic
May 28, 2018
Yesterday was Memorial Day and, much to my surprise, I was keen for a beach day even with the potential of massive crowds. Thankfully, we got up early enough to beat the rush and managed to have the best first beach day of the season! (I’m writing this with very crisp shoulders, however).
We woke up early, finished packing our bags, and headed to the beach while it was still overcast and hopefully somewhat empty at the beach still while others waited for the clouds to pass.
One of our wedding registry gifts was this amazing picnic basket that we’d been itching to use and this day was the perfect opportunity to break it in.
The picnic basket, along with my favourite Etsy tote, fit perfectly in my boot ready for the beach!
We made it to Will Roger’s State Beach with no lines at the entrance and plenty of parking! Totally shocked and relieved at the lack of typical Memorial Day lines, we beelined straight to the perfect spot for our picnic.
Eddie got straight to work on a new book he’s devouring.
The clouds started to disappear.
My toes were the only thing to get in this water as the Pacific is still far too cold for me. 😛
Soon we were ready to tuck into my homemade hummus! If you haven’t already read that recipe, you can go here and check it out. Easiest and tastiest recipe you’ll ever make for your midday snack!

After a couple hours of reading and sunning, we were ready for food again. As I’m typically known for doing, we had breakfast for lunch! Acai bowls – another recipe of mine I recently posted about.
I popped everything in Tupperware dishes for easy serving and off we went! I also pre-mixed the acai with almond milk in a water bottle so there was less mess.
Raspberries and berries in with the granola and acai mix…
Next topped with finely ground flax seeds…
Then a plethora of coconut flakes and we were almost ready!
The final ingredient was honey, which the wind managed to blow all over my bag! Ha!
These were gone in a jiffy!
Post-food meant siesta time and the end to the perfect first beach day of the season!
