Casa Lecanda, Merida – Boutique Hotel
July 19, 2018
For those following along on my weekend in Merida, I first stayed at this hotel, before coming to Casa Lecanda on the Saturday. Based on the front, you’d have absolutely no idea what to expect behind closed doors.
The front of the hotel was cleverly deceiving – as what awaited behind this passable facade was a secluded and dreamy paradise.
Feeling like I was transported to another country, Casa Lecanda boasts beauty around every corner.
Yes, these hammocks are for sleeping in. Yes, they are just as difficult to get in and out of as you would think.
Feeling very much like I was in a Spanish hacienda, I couldn’t help but fall in love with all of the gorgeous tile.
The pool was one of my favourite spots to relax; so tranquil and shielded from the traffic noises outside.
My room, however, was its own escape from reality. One of the best parts about staying in a small hotel and being one of maybe 10 guests? Hand written letters welcoming you to the hotel. It’s the little personalizations like this that make me want to never stay in AirBnbs or chain hotels again. I do recognize, however, that boutique hotels like this aren’t as commonplace as we’d like them, so I soaked up all the pleasures I could during my stay.
My shower! I mean, come on! I was living a total dream.
Breakfast the next morning was luxurious and the perfect last meal before heading to the airport.
Yucatan huevos (eggs) with homemade tortillas, habanera sauce (which I became addicted to in Mexico!), pico de gallo, avocado (duh), freshly squeezed orange juice, and a plethora of pastries to sample from. Absolute heaven.
I needed to dip in the pool one last time before heading for my flight. How could you not?!
Casa Lecanda, is an absolute must if you get the chance to go to Merida. Tricky to find, but absolutely worth the hunt. You’ll never want to leave.
