Our Wedding in France
July 2, 2018
When I stumbled across our venue online, I was immediately sold. It was love at first site! No visits to the venue needed, deposits were in and the wedding planning began. Just take a look at how spectacular our chateau was!
I had to pinch myself often for fear I was dreaming up this fairytale.
On the morning of our big day I was unnervingly calm. It was the strangest feeling knowing that all my emotions were somehow suppressed. I, Saffy, wasn’t freaking out about every little detail! Remarkably, the day progressed smoothly, even slowly at first, giving me plenty of opportunity to soak in precious time with my girls in the bridal suite.
My biggest splurge (besides, of course, getting married on another continent) was my wedding shoes. I had dreamt of these gorgeous emerald beauties for almost a year and a half. I saved up, and finally pulled the trigger to complete my green-themed wedding dream!

How stunning does my mum look???
Whilst the morning and early afternoon seemed to go by so leisurely, the two hours before I was supposed to be walking down the aisle, flew by! There seemed to be no extra time for pictures with my girls beforehand, as we were literally rushing out the door.
If you read my rehearsal dinner post you’d remember that we were supposed to be married under that gorgeous big tree in front of the chateau. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans for us that day so we had to switch to our Plan B. We had our ceremony in the old barn, which was spectacular, nonetheless.
The moment I turned the corner and walked down the aisle towards my future husband, all those suppressed emotions from the morning came to a head!
Being that we got married in the south of France, I decided a lavender toss would be incredibly appropriate. It was beautiful! I just didn’t expect how much it would sting when actually thrown at our faces! But the lavender adorned our hair for the remainder of the evening, and I absolutely loved it!
A little insight into the meaning behind the following picture (which just so happens to be my absolute favourite of the entire wedding). Eddie and I agreed to walk back down the aisle to “I Do, I Do, I Do” by Abba. About 10 seconds into the song it stopped (along with my heart) and all of a sudden bagpipes started playing. I thought: “Awwwww Eddie decided it would be more appropriate to have a bagpipe song playing to honour my Scottish heritage.” Little did I know that he had secretly arranged for two bagpipers to play live! I only noticed them when I turned around at the end of our lavender toss, and immediately burst into tears! I couldn’t believe our photographers captured this emotional moment, and I will cherish this forever.
The floodgates were open and I had everyone around me in tears too!
We managed to get a huge group shot right before the sky opened up again!
Onto the reception we went!
French tradition says that guests should wave their napkins above their head as the bride and groom enter the reception. I loved being able to incorporate new and old traditions into our wedding whilst also breaking a few rules. 😉
Eddie’s brother, Pin, was our MC for the evening and wow… he absolutely killed it! The trickiest part about having a wedding where half the guests speak Spanish and half speak English is being able to make sure everyone feels included – particularly with the speeches. Pin nailed it on the head. All of our guests were thoroughly entertained by his adlibbing and jokes throughout the reception. We couldn’t have asked for a better MC to make our evening feel so full of love, laughter, and with all kinds of entertaining moments that we’ll never forget.
My dad gave the wedding speech of the century. I’m not just saying that as a biased daughter. I had dozens of guests coming up to me afterwards telling me how his speech was the best they’d ever heard at any wedding. The room was in tears and his words left an impression on us all for many years to come.
Let the dancing commence… and not end until the wee hours of the morning!
All the single lads.
My brother, Jonathan, caught the garter and…
… his girlfriend, Natalie, caught the bouquet! It was meant to be!
Our wedding couldn’t have been more perfect! I’ll be dreaming of this day forever and I’ll be looking for any excuse to return to our fairytale chateau for as many anniversaries as possible! I’m one happy, lucky, and in-love girl with my new Prince Charming Husband.
